Freight & Transportation FAQs
What's the difference between LTL and FTL?
LTL shipments share trailer space with other freight and suit 1–10 pallets; FTL dedicates a full trailer to one shipper and suits large or time-critical loads. TCB Global quotes both so you can compare cost against transit time. Note: LTL carriers operate on business days (no weekend or federal-holiday movement), while a dedicated FTL truck can run through weekends — so a cross-country LTL move is measured in business days, and a dedicated truck in calendar days.
What is a freight class, and how does it affect my LTL rate?
Freight class is a standardized rating (50–500) under the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system, based on a commodity's density, stowability, handling, and liability. Misclassified freight triggers carrier reclassification fees that can wipe out a good rate. TCB Global provides freight classification assistance — we help determine the correct NMFC number before your shipment moves.
Is TCB Global an asset-based carrier or a freight broker?
TCB Global is a licensed property broker MC Number 16466415 and freight agent, not an asset-based carrier. Rather than being limited to one fleet, we select from a vetted carrier network to match each shipment's lane, timeline, and budget, and we manage booking, scheduling, and tracking on your behalf.
Do you handle hazmat, oversized, or temperature-controlled freight?
We do handle hazmat frieght — we move it regularly, including flammable flavorings and ingredients for beverage-industry clients. We also handle oversized freight, including permitted loads; we can pull permits for equipment moves such as commercial conveyor systems.
What accessorial charges should I expect?
A standard freight quote assumes dock-to-dock service with no appointments. Anything beyond that is an accessorial: delivery appointments, liftgate service, residential or limited-access delivery, inside delivery, hazmat handling, and detention are the most common. TCB Global passes all accessorials through at carrier cost — no markup — and we identify likely accessorials during quoting so your landed-cost estimate reflects the real total.
How is freight pricing determined?
Rates depend on lane (origin and destination), weight/dimensions, freight class, fuel, required accessorials, and especially current market conditions. Our quoting is primarily spot-market driven: we check live market pricing and quote a rate valid for a stated window (typically up to a week). Contract rates are available for ongoing lanes, . Dimensional and per-unit pricing structures are also available for qualifying programs.
How do I track my shipment?
Every shipment is managed by a dedicated account representative who tracks it end to end, and we provide daily tracking reports for active shipments on request. You have one point of contact for status, updates, and exceptions — you never have to chase a carrier yourself.
What happens if my freight is damaged or lost?
Note any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that documentation is critical — then contact your account rep immediately. Standard carrier liability is limited and may not cover your freight's full commercial value.
Do you offer or arrange cargo insurance?
Yes. TCB Global carries $100,000 in standard cargo liability coverage under a $1 million umbrella policy, and we can arrange supplemental cargo insurance for higher-value shipments as needed.
Is there a minimum volume or contract commitment?
No. Transportation services have no minimum volume or contract commitment — we support one-off spot shipments and ongoing lane programs alike.
Do you offer transloading or container devanning?
Yes, at both our Las Vegas and Orlando facilities. Floor-loaded containers are unloaded by our warehouse crews, palletized, and either stored, moved into fulfillment, or transloaded to domestic LTL/FTL for onward distribution. Devanning is quoted as an added handling service.
How do you vet your carriers?
Every carrier is screened through Carrier Assure vetting software plus our own multi-step review: years in service, out-of-service incidents, insurance verification, and identity checks (including phone-number matching) to prevent carrier fraud and double-brokering.
Do you handle inbound containers from overseas?
Yes. Through our agency agreement with Block Logistics , our international customs broker partner, we coordinate imports door to door — origin pickup, container movement, customs clearance assistance, port drayage, and final delivery. All of our international business runs through this partnership, with strong lanes from China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
What are demurrage and detention charges, and how do you help avoid them?
Demurrage accrues when a container sits at the port beyond its free time; detention/per-diem charges accrue when equipment is held too long — for example, when a container or chassis isn't returned on schedule or a live unload runs past its free window. TCB Global manages both proactively: we pre-pull containers and chassis from the port (a small fee that's far cheaper than the fines it prevents), deliver by appointment, and coordinate warehouse unload crews in advance so containers turn within their free time.
Can you combine freight with fulfillment?
Yes, inbound drayage, devanning, storage, fulfillment, and outbound freight can run as one program from our Orlando and Las Vegas facilities, with one point of contact across the whole chain.
Do you offer local delivery?
Yes — same-day local delivery is available in the Las Vegas and Orlando metro areas, served directly from our two warehouses through established local carrier relationships.
